Gangster Lawrence Bishnoi has reportedly been shifted to the highly restricted ‘Do Sau Kholi’ block at Sabarmati Central Jail in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, the move places Bishnoi in a specialised high-security section designed to house inmates accused or convicted of terrorism and other serious crimes.

The reported transfer comes amid stringent restrictions on his movement and communication, with authorities seeking to prevent him from operating his criminal network from behind bars.

What Is ‘Do Sau Kholi’?

According to reports, ‘Do Sau Kholi’, also referred to as Block 200, is a maximum-security section of Sabarmati Central Jail. The block reportedly accommodates around 200 inmates, including prisoners linked to the 2008 Ahmedabad serial bomb blasts case and other serious offences.

The facility is divided into four separate sections, each accommodating approximately 50 prisoners. These divisions are intended to restrict movement between sections and minimise contact among inmates.

Bishnoi’s cell reportedly measures approximately 7.5 feet by 11 feet, providing limited personal space within the highly restricted prison environment.

From ‘Dus Kholi’ to a More Restricted Block

Before the reported transfer, Bishnoi was reportedly lodged in ‘Dus Kholi’, a smaller high-security enclosure accommodating around 10 inmates.

His latest reported relocation is being described as part of tighter security arrangements intended to restrict his movements and prevent unauthorised communication. However, prison authorities have not publicly confirmed all the reported details of the transfer.

Why Is Bishnoi Under Strict Surveillance?

Bishnoi has been lodged at Sabarmati Central Jail since May 10, 2023, after being transferred from Delhi’s Tihar Jail in connection with a drug trafficking investigation.

The Union Home Ministry has also maintained restrictions preventing his removal from the prison under the applicable legal provisions. His court appearances and permitted proceedings are conducted through video conferencing.

Despite his incarceration, investigators continue to monitor the activities of his alleged criminal network, which has been linked to extortion, threats and violent crimes.

The reported move to ‘Do Sau Kholi’ highlights the security challenges surrounding high-profile inmates and the measures being taken to restrict their movements and outside communication.
