India marked a significant milestone in its space journey as ‘Vikram-1’, the country’s first privately developed launch vehicle, successfully completed its maiden orbital launch on Saturday. The historic achievement, developed by Hyderabad-based space startup Skyroot Aerospace, has been hailed as a major step towards strengthening India’s self-reliance in space technology.

Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister (CM) Dr Mohan Yadav congratulated space scientists and researchers for the landmark success, saying the achievement reflects the determination of a new India, the innovation of young scientists and the country’s growing capabilities in advanced technology.

Reacting to the successful launch, CM Dr Yadav said that under the able leadership of Prime Minister (PM) Narendra Modi, India has been continuously creating new benchmarks in the field of space science and technology through innovation and research.

He described the successful orbital launch of Vikram-1 as a historic achievement that highlights India’s progress towards becoming self-reliant in the space sector.

“This achievement is a symbol of the resolve of new India, the innovation of young scientists and the nation’s commitment towards self-reliance,” CM Dr Yadav said.

The Chief Minister added that the success would further enhance India’s reputation in the global space community and open new avenues for private participation in the country’s space ecosystem.

Boost to on-demand space launch services

Vikram-1 is India’s first privately developed launch vehicle and is expected to provide a major push to pay-on-demand space launch services. The successful mission is likely to encourage greater participation of private players in the rapidly expanding commercial space sector.

The launch vehicle has been developed by Skyroot Aerospace as part of India’s growing private space industry, which has gained momentum following policy reforms aimed at promoting innovation and entrepreneurship in space technology.

Experts believe that the successful deployment of private launch capabilities will help India cater to the increasing demand for satellite launches globally while reducing dependence on foreign launch providers.
