‘Jana Nayagan,’ Tamil Nadu Chief Minister (CM) C Joseph Vijay’s swansong as an actor, hit theatres across India on Thursday, triggering unprecedented celebrations among his fans. Adding to the buzz, actor Trisha Krishnan, who has long been linked to Vijay through persistent dating rumours, was spotted at Chennai’s iconic Rohini Theatre to watch the movie on its opening day.

The actress was accompanied by a friend, and quietly entered the theatre through the rear entrance in a bid to avoid the surging crowds gathered outside the theatre. A video of her turning up at the theatre began making rounds on social media, emerging as one of the biggest talking points surrounding the film’s release.

Trisha makes low-key appearance at theatre

Videos making rounds online showed Trisha arriving at Rohini Theatre, donning a simple white top paired with light blue denim jeans. As fans recognised her, many tried to click photos of her and request selfies.

The actor acknowledged the crowd with a smile but avoided stopping for pictures, choosing instead to head straight into the cinema hall. She has not yet publicly shared her review of the film.

Notably, her visit to the theatre on the opening day of the movie has again fuelled speculation about her alleged relationship with Vijay. Although neither actor has ever confirmed the rumours, the duo frequently makes it to the headlines over their reported personal equation.

Earlier this year, rumours of a split between the duo emerged after Trisha did not publicly wish Vijay on his birthday on June 22. However, she later dismissed the speculation by sharing a picture from what was described as an intimate birthday celebration, putting the rumours to rest.

Celebrations erupt in multiple states

Jana Nayagan has opened to an enthusiastic response across multiple states. Apart from Tamil, the film has also been released in Telugu and Hindi, expanding its reach to audiences nationwide.

The first show of the film at 6 am in Mumbai witnessed a full house, while the 9 am screenings across Chennai and several other cities in Tamil Nadu drew packed audiences.

Outside theatres, Vijay’s fans and supporters celebrated the release of his farewell film with fireworks, special prayers, drum performances and dance celebrations. Many fans were also seen wearing customised Jana Nayagan merchandise.

As per early industry estimates, the movie is expected to breach the Rs 20 crore mark in India on its opening day. Globally, trade projections suggest the film could edge past the Rs 100 crore gross mark on Day 1.
