Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister (CM) Dr Mohan Yadav joined the fifth procession of Lord Mahakaleshwar in Ujjain on Monday and offered prayers to Lord Chandramoleshwar, seeking happiness, prosperity and well-being for the people of the state.
CM Dr Yadav reached Ram Ghat by boat from Dutt Akhara and performed rituals for Lord Chandramoleshwar, who was seated in the ceremonial palanquin, after the procession arrived at the ghat from the Mahakaleshwar Temple.

1,100 Batuks chant Vedic mantras
As the procession reached Ram Ghat, priest Ashish Sharma performed the jalabhishek of Lord Chandramoleshwar with water from the Shipra river. A helicopter showered flower petals over the procession, adding to the festive atmosphere and devotion among the thousands of devotees gathered along the traditional route.
Several special attractions were incorporated into the procession in view of the enthusiasm and faith of devotees. One of the major highlights was the participation of 1,100 Batuks, who performed Vedic chanting during the procession.
The event also showcased a vibrant blend of religion, tradition, culture and modern technology.

Over 500 artists showcase tribal culture
The procession featured grand cultural performances by eight tribal groups comprising more than 500 artists. The entire procession was planned around the theme of 84 Mahadevs, adding a distinct cultural and religious dimension to the annual event.
The procession followed its traditional route, allowing devotees to seek the blessings of Baba Mahakal. A stirring performance by the police band further enhanced the atmosphere, drawing appreciation from those present.
The elaborate arrangements reflected an effort to preserve the traditional character of the sacred procession while introducing new cultural and technological elements to make the experience more engaging for devotees.
Religious tourism powering economic growth
Speaking on the occasion, Chief Minister Dr Yadav said India’s Sanatan consciousness and cultural heritage are gaining greater recognition across the world under the leadership of Prime Minister (PM) Narendra Modi.

He said religious tourism in Madhya Pradesh has received fresh momentum, particularly following the development of Shri Mahakal Lok in Ujjain. According to CM Dr Yadav, the project has led to an unprecedented expansion of religious tourism in the city, giving fresh impetus to employment, trade and the local economy.
“Religious tourism is no longer only a matter of faith; it is also becoming a powerful instrument of development and prosperity for the state,” CM Dr Yadav said.
The fifth procession of Lord Mahakaleshwar thus combined centuries-old religious traditions with elaborate cultural performances and modern arrangements, reinforcing Ujjain’s position as one of Madhya Pradesh’s prominent pilgrimage and religious tourism destinations.
