Students aspiring to become doctors have received a major boost, as medical education in Madhya Pradesh is set to become more affordable for those securing top positions in the NEET merit list. The state is likely to reduce the fee burden for meritorious students by nearly one-third, while an increase in medical college seats will provide more opportunities for high-ranking NEET aspirants to secure admissions.
The move is expected to offer a dual advantage to deserving students; reduced education costs and increased availability of seats in both government and private medical colleges across Madhya Pradesh.

More seats reserved for merit students in 2026
According to the revised seat structure, the number of seats available for NEET merit students has increased significantly in 2026 compared to 2023. This expansion is aimed at ensuring that more deserving candidates get the opportunity to pursue medical education in the state.
In 2023, Madhya Pradesh had a total of 4,675 medical college seats. Of these, 2,275 seats were available in government medical colleges, while private medical colleges accounted for 2,400 seats.
Out of the total seats, 4,315 were earmarked for students selected on the basis of merit. Government colleges had reserved 2,215 seats for merit-based admissions, while private medical colleges offered 2,040 such seats.

Seat count rises to 6,020 in 2026
Following the expansion of medical education infrastructure, the total number of medical college seats in Madhya Pradesh increased to 6,020 in 2026. The revised figures include 3,020 seats in government medical colleges and 3,000 seats in private institutions.
Of these, 4,520 seats have been allocated for NEET merit students. Government medical colleges will provide all 3,020 seats for merit-based admissions, while private medical colleges will offer 1,500 seats to students selected through the merit route.
The increase marks a substantial rise in opportunities for talented students seeking admission to MBBS programmes in the state.
Management quota admissions also through NEET counselling
In another significant change, admissions under the management quota will also be conducted through the counselling process organised by the state government. Students seeking admission through this category will have to qualify based on their NEET merit ranking.
The revised admission framework is expected to bring greater transparency to the process while ensuring that NEET performance remains the key criterion for medical college admissions.
With more seats and reduced fees for meritorious candidates, Madhya Pradesh is likely to become a more accessible destination for students pursuing medical education.
