Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister (CM) Dr Mohan Yadav has ordered strict action following the deaths allegedly linked to the consumption of spurious liquor in three villages of Sagar district’s Banda tehsil, suspending three excise officials and attaching another officer to headquarters.

The incident was reported from Gogara Khurd, Nauroze and Patan villages, where several people died after allegedly consuming spurious liquor. Taking a stern view of the matter, CM Dr Yadav had directed officials on the morning of September 6 that no person found responsible for the incident would be spared.

Three officials suspended

Acting on the chief minister’s directions, the administration has suspended Sagar Assistant Excise Commissioner Kirti Dubey, Assistant District Excise Officer Dilip Khandate and Proshni Ureti, Excise Sub-Inspector of the Banda Circle.

Deputy Commissioner and Divisional Flying Squad in-charge Neerja Shrivastava has also been removed from Sagar district and attached to the Gwalior headquarters.

The action comes amid heightened scrutiny of the circumstances surrounding the deaths and the role of officials responsible for monitoring the illegal liquor trade in the affected areas.

‘No guilty person will be spared’

CM Dr Yadav had earlier directed the minister in charge and senior officials to immediately investigate the incident and initiate stringent action against those found responsible.

“I have directed the minister in charge and officials to immediately investigate the matter and take strict action against those responsible. No guilty person will be spared,” the chief minister said.

He also held discussions with senior officials and ordered immediate investigations in the affected areas. Alongside the probe, he directed the administration to ensure adequate arrangements for relief and medical treatment for those affected.

Senior officials reach affected villages

Following the chief minister’s instructions, senior officials, including the Sagar divisional commissioner, Inspector General of Police, district collector and superintendent of police, reached the affected areas.

The officials met the families of those affected by the incident and assessed the situation on the ground. They also visited the hospital to take stock of the condition of patients undergoing treatment and reviewed the medical facilities and arrangements being made for their care.

The administration’s response comes as authorities continue to examine the circumstances that led to the alleged consumption of spurious liquor in the three villages.

The suspension of the three excise officials and the transfer of the senior officer to headquarters signals the state government’s tough stance on the incident. Further action is expected once the ongoing investigation establishes individual responsibility and identifies any lapses that may have contributed to the tragedy.
