Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister (CM) Dr Mohan Yadav on Sunday secured Cabinet’s approval to introduce the Madhya Pradesh Uniform Civil Code (UCC), 2026 Bill in the upcoming Assembly session, marking another significant step towards implementing a common civil law framework in the state.

The decision was taken during the Cabinet meeting held at the historic Chaman Mahal in Jagdishpur, a fort associated with the Gond dynasty. Besides approving the UCC Bill, the Cabinet also cleared eight other Bills for introduction in the Legislative Assembly and sanctioned ₹898.96 crore for the upgradation of 73 government healthcare institutions across the state.

The Cabinet approved the Madhya Pradesh Uniform Civil Code, 2026 Bill, describing it as legislation dedicated to the constitutional principles of equality and justice.

It also authorised the Law and Legislative Affairs Department to complete all constitutional and procedural formalities required for introducing the Bill in the Madhya Pradesh Legislative Assembly.

The Cabinet further approved the Madhya Pradesh Repeal Bill, 2026, authorising the concerned department to reintroduce the legislation in the Assembly and complete the necessary legal procedures.

8 other bills receive cabinet approval

In addition to the UCC Bill, the Cabinet approved several key legislations for the forthcoming Assembly session.

Among them was the Madhya Pradesh Highways (Amendment) Bill, 2026, with the Public Works Department authorised to pursue its passage.

The Cabinet also approved the Madhya Pradesh Fire and Emergency Services Bill, 2026, authorising the Urban Development and Housing Department to complete further legislative formalities.

Other bills cleared include:

Madhya Pradesh Private Universities (Establishment and Operation) Amendment Bill, 2026, proposing exemptions relating to land, built-up area and corpus fund requirements for establishing private universities.
Madhya Pradesh Dhanvantari Health University Bill, 2026.
Madhya Pradesh Medical Sciences University (Amendment) Bill, 2026.
Madhya Pradesh Code on Empowering Workspaces, 2026 (Labour Code).
Madhya Pradesh Ease of Doing Business Bill, 2026.

The Cabinet authorised the respective departments to carry out all subsequent legislative procedures for these Bills before the Assembly.

₹898.96 crore sanctioned for healthcare infrastructure

In another major decision, the Cabinet approved ₹898.96 crore to strengthen healthcare infrastructure across Madhya Pradesh, including ₹776.13 crore for upgrading government medical institutions.

The approval covers the modernisation of 73 healthcare facilities, including sub-health centres, primary health centres (PHCs), community health centres (CHCs) and civil hospitals, with the objective of improving access to quality healthcare services.

Under the plan:

29 sub-health centres will be upgraded into six-bed Primary Health Centres.
19 Primary Health Centres will be upgraded into Community Health Centres.
18 Community Health Centres will be converted into 50-bed Civil Hospitals.
Seven existing institutions will be upgraded into 100-bed hospitals.

2,200 employment opportunities to be created

The expansion project will also generate substantial employment within the public healthcare system.

The Cabinet approved the creation of 1,600 regular posts and 71 contractual positions across the upgraded institutions. In addition, 560 personnel will be engaged through outsourcing agencies. To support the additional workforce, the state government also sanctioned an annual recurring expenditure of ₹122.83 crore.

Officials said the upgraded medical facilities are expected to significantly improve healthcare delivery, ensuring better treatment and easier access to medical services for residents in the respective regions as well as neighbouring areas.
