A minor girl aged 12 was allegedly raped and murdered in Baruipur area of Kolkata’s South 24 Parganas on Sunday, leaving the area reeling under protest and massive public outrage. As per the girl’s kin, she had gone out on Saturday at around 4 pm to buy food, soon after which she went missing.

According to sources, she was allegedly abducted by four men during this. 

Body found in pond

Police officials aware of the case said the girl’s body was later found in a pond located at close proximity to her house. The Baruipur police personnel suspect she was strangled to death. They further added that a probe into her alleged sexual assault is in progress, and the case is being examined from all angles. 

Crowd stages protest

After the victim’s body was recovered from the pond, a huge crowd congregated at the spot and staged a protest. They also refused to allow the body to be removed. Tensions flared in the area through Sunday morning as locals demanded strict action against the accused.

Until the report was filed, the police did not confirm the identities of the accused, as well as the arrest status of the perpetrators. Further details in the case are awaited as the probe continues.
