Two workers were injured after a plastic container suddenly exploded at a scrap collection unit in Hyderabad’s Katedan industrial area on Tuesday afternoon. The incident, which was captured on CCTV, occurred around 3 pm at M/S Traders while the workers were handling sacks of scrap material.

The injured workers, identified as Sai and Dileep, were taken to Osmania General Hospital, where they are undergoing treatment. Police have collected evidence from the site and sent it for forensic analysis to determine which chemical may have caused the explosion.

Worker Thrown Several Feet by Explosion

According to the details available, Sai and Dileep were shifting sacks when one of the sacks tore, spilling its contents onto the ground. Sai reportedly pressed a plastic container with his left foot while handling the spilled material.

When he noticed smoke coming from the container, he attempted to kick it away. However, the container suddenly exploded, throwing him several feet away and leaving him injured.

Sai sustained injuries to his left foot along with burn injuries. Dileep, who was nearby at the time of the incident, suffered minor injuries.

Police Collect Evidence to Identify Chemical

CCTV footage captured the moment the container exploded, providing investigators with visual evidence of the incident. Police have collected samples and other material from the site for forensic examination.

Investigators are now attempting to establish what substance was inside the container and whether a chemical reaction triggered the blast. The exact cause of the explosion has not yet been confirmed.

Safety Concerns at Scrap Collection Units

The incident has raised concerns about the risks workers face while handling unidentified materials at scrap collection facilities. Containers discarded with scrap can potentially retain hazardous substances, making proper identification and safe handling essential.

The forensic findings are expected to help investigators determine the cause of the explosion and whether any safety lapses contributed to the incident. For now, both injured workers remain under medical care as the investigation continues.
