For his achievement, Matata earned the winner’s prize of US$27,000, along with an additional US$12,000 for setting a new course record.
Kenyan runners dominated the men’s elite category, securing all three podium positions. Samwel Nyamai Mailu finished second in 59 minutes and 24 seconds, while Stanley Waithaka Mburu took third place in 59 minutes and 33 seconds.
