Lawyers joined Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and other Opposition leaders in New Delhi on October 12 as the INDIA bloc marched towards the Supreme Court over alleged electoral-roll irregularities and demands for Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar’s resignation.
Lawyers Join the March
Several lawyers were seen making their way to join the protest march led by Rahul Gandhi in the national capital. The demonstration brought together Opposition leaders, activists and supporters as the procession moved towards the Supreme Court.
Opposition Targets Chief Election Commissioner
The INDIA bloc’s march focused on allegations of “vote chori” and demands to scrap the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. Opposition leaders also called for the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. These remain political allegations and demands, not established findings of wrongdoing.
Heavy Security Across Delhi
Security was tightened across central Delhi as crowds gathered for the march. Police barricades were placed along the route, and the procession was stopped at Bhagwan Dass Road as demonstrators attempted to move towards the Supreme Court.
Opposition Plans Legal Action
Rahul Gandhi and other Opposition leaders indicated their intention to approach the Supreme Court over their concerns. The march combined street protests with efforts to seek judicial intervention on electoral-roll issues.
The participation of lawyers added a legal dimension to the demonstration, which centred on electoral transparency, protest rights and demands for accountability.
