A madrasa vice-principal in Bangladesh’s Gazipur district has been arrested after locals allegedly beat him over accusations of sexually abusing a seven-year-old student, triggering public outrage and raising concerns over child safety and mob violence.
The accused, identified as Musleuddin, was employed at Qariul Quran International Madrasah in Madhya Auchpara, Tongi. According to police and the child’s family, the alleged incident occurred on October 19 inside the institution. A court subsequently rejected his bail plea and ordered that he be sent to jail.
Allegations Spark Public Anger
According to the child’s family, the girl became reluctant to attend classes after the alleged incident. She reportedly disclosed the matter to her parents, who then confronted the vice-principal at the madrasa on October 21.
As news of the allegations spread, a crowd gathered on the premises and allegedly assaulted the accused. Police from Tongi West Police Station arrived, rescued him from the crowd and took him into custody. The child’s family subsequently filed a formal complaint.
Madrasa Authorities Raise Counterclaims
The institution’s management has also levelled allegations concerning the incident. According to media reports, the madrasa’s founder claimed that a group entered the premises, assaulted staff members and vandalised property. He further alleged that cash worth Tk 17 lakh and several mobile phones were stolen.
The alleged assault on staff and theft claims have not been independently established, and the reported financial allegations have not been confirmed by police.
Investigation and Legal Proceedings
Police have taken legal action against the vice-principal following the complaint. The case has drawn attention to the need for effective child-protection measures in educational institutions and the importance of addressing abuse
