Poonch, August 16, Security forces busted a suspected terrorist hideout in the Draba area of Surankote sector in Jammu and Kashmir’s Poonch district, recovering six improvised explosive devices (IEDs) and other materials during a search operation, according to media reports.
The recovery was made following specific intelligence inputs about a suspected hideout in the area. The operation highlights continuing efforts by security agencies to detect and dismantle suspected militant infrastructure in the strategically sensitive border district.
Explosives and Communication Equipment Seized
According to reports, a joint team comprising personnel from the Army’s 16 Rashtriya Rifles, the Special Operations Group (SOG) of Bufliaz and the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) conducted the operation in Draba.
During the search, the team recovered six IEDs, including one gamla-type device, one gool-type device and four smaller IEDs. A Motorola wireless communication set and seven rounds of AK-47 ammunition were also seized from the suspected hideout.
The recovered explosives are significant because such devices can pose serious threats to security personnel and civilians if used in attacks.
Security Measures Intensified
Poonch, located near the Line of Control (LoC), remains a sensitive area due to security challenges and the threat of militant infiltration. Security forces regularly conduct intelligence-led searches and surveillance operations to prevent militant activities and maintain peace.
The latest recovery underscores the importance of coordination among the Army, police and paramilitary forces in identifying potential threats and securing vulnerable areas.
Further Searches Underway
Reports indicated that search operations were continuing in the surrounding areas following the recovery. Further investigation is expected to establish the origin of the explosives and determine whether the hideout was linked to any militant network.
Authorities have not publicly established the intended use of the recovered devices. Additional details regarding arrests or further seizures were not available in the cited report.
