MP Surya-Mitra Scheme: At an event held at MP Chief Minister (CM) Dr Mohan Yadav’s official residence on Wednesday, the state’s top leader distributed power purchase agreements to selected developers under the ‘Surya-Mitra Agriculture Feeder’ scheme. The goal of the initiative, as per officials, is to strengthen the agrarian sector by ensuring a reliable supply of electricity through solar energy. The ceremony marked a key step in implementing the Madhya Pradesh government’s plan to solarise agricultural power infrastructure.

Agricultural feeders to get solar boost

Additional Chief Secretary, Manu Srivastava said that the scheme focuses on installing solar power plants on grid-connected dedicated agricultural feeders, as well as the mixed-use feeders, that supply electricity to irrigation pumps.

He elaborated by saying that both entire feeders and associated power substations will be solarised under the scheme. He added that the move is expected to provide farmers with a consistent daytime power supply, reducing reliability on conventional energy sources.

Amanveer Singh Bains, Managing Director (MD) of the Madhya Pradesh Energy Development Corporation, said that developers from various sectors were in attendance at the tender process issued as per established norms.

The investors meeting the required criteria were selected, and power purchase agreements (PPAs) have been signed with them for a period of 25 years, officials said. These long-term agreements are expected to ensure stability and sustained investment in the renewable energy sector.

Agreements handed over by CM Dr Yadav

MP CM Dr Yadav handed over the agreements in a programme chaired by him. The scheme, according to officials, is being viewed as a significant step towards empowering the agricultural sector through clean energy. Moreover, the initiative is expected to provide farmers with electricity during the day, ramp up irrigation efficiency and enhance productivity. Additionally, it aligns with broader efforts to promote energy self-reliance and cut down carbon emissions in the state. Officials believe the scheme will not only benefit farmers, but will also contribute to sustainable development and will strengthen MP’s position in renewable energy adoption.
