A tragic incident in Rajasthan's Kota claimed the life of a woman and left nine others injured after a fault in a high-tension power line allegedly caused electricity to spread through several houses in a residential locality. The accident created panic among residents as electric current reportedly passed through homes, putting many people at risk.
Emergency teams rushed to the spot, and the injured were shifted to nearby hospitals for treatment. Authorities have begun an investigation to determine the exact cause of the incident and assess responsibility.
Insulator Dislodged After Loud Blast
According to Circle Inspector Ramesh Kavia, the accident occurred when an insulator of a high-tension power line belonging to the Jaipur Vidyut Vitran Nigam Limited (JVVNL) became dislodged after a loud explosion. The high-voltage transmission line was passing over residential houses, and the fault reportedly caused the homes beneath it to become electrified.
Residents said they heard a sudden blast before electricity spread through the area. People inside the affected houses received electric shocks, leading to chaos as neighbours rushed to rescue those trapped in dangerous conditions.
One Fatality, Several Hospitalised
The incident resulted in the death of a woman, while nine other people sustained injuries of varying severity. Medical teams provided immediate assistance, and the injured were admitted to local hospitals. Officials are monitoring their condition, while police have recorded statements from residents and eyewitnesses to understand the sequence of events.
Authorities Launch Investigation
Police and electricity department officials inspected the site soon after the accident. Investigators are examining whether the power infrastructure was properly maintained and if any technical negligence contributed to the incident. The condition of the damaged insulator and the high-tension line is also being assessed as part of the inquiry.
Questions Raised Over Electrical Safety
The incident has once again highlighted concerns over the safety of high-tension power lines passing through densely populated residential areas. Experts have often stressed the importance of regular inspection and timely maintenance of electrical infrastructure to prevent such accidents.
Residents have demanded immediate safety measures, including inspection of overhead power lines and replacement of damaged equipment wherever necessary. Authorities are expected to take corrective steps after the investigation report is completed, while local people hope stricter monitoring will help prevent similar tragedies in the future.
