A prison escape in Tamil Nadu’s Theni district triggered a major police operation after 17 inmates reportedly escaped from the district jail. Police launched a search operation and used drone surveillance to track down the escapees, with 13 arrested so far.

South Zone Inspector General of Police Vijayendra Bidari confirmed the arrests, stating that surveillance technology helped police identify and secure the escaped prisoners.

Drone Surveillance Helps Police Track Escapees

Following the escape, police teams initiated efforts to locate the missing inmates. Drone surveillance was deployed to assist the search operation and monitor areas where the prisoners were suspected to have fled.

The operation led to the arrest of 13 inmates, while efforts to trace the remaining escapees are understood to be ongoing.

Security Concerns After Jailbreak

The incident has raised questions about security arrangements at the Theni District Jail and how the inmates managed to escape. Authorities are expected to examine the circumstances surrounding the breach and assess whether any security lapses contributed to the incident.

Police have not provided further details in the information available about the identities of the escapees or the precise circumstances of their escape.

The search operation continues as authorities work to apprehend the remaining prisoners and establish how the jailbreak occurred.
