New Zealand have suffered a setback ahead of their upcoming five-match T20 International series against India, with batter Mark Chapman and fast bowler Zak Foulkes ruled out due to injuries. New Zealand Cricket confirmed the development on Friday, October 9, announcing Josh Clarkson and Blair Tickner as their replacements.

The series is scheduled to begin on October 22 in Christchurch, with the two teams set to compete across five T20I matches.

Chapman Suffers Hamstring Injury

Chapman sustained a tear in his left hamstring while playing in the European T20 league last month. The injury has ruled him out of the entire T20I series against India.

However, the batter is reportedly on track to recover in time for New Zealand’s subsequent one-day international series against India. His absence will require the team management to reconsider its batting combinations ahead of the upcoming contests.

Foulkes Faces Uncertain Return

Fast bowler Zak Foulkes has also been ruled out after injuring his right hip flexor during a recent Canterbury men’s training session.

Unlike Chapman, Foulkes does not yet have a confirmed timeline for his return to competitive cricket. His absence leaves New Zealand without another pace-bowling option for the five-match series.

Clarkson and Tickner Join the Squad

New Zealand have called up all-rounder Josh Clarkson and fast bowler Blair Tickner to replace the injured players in the 16-member squad.

Head coach Rob Walter expressed disappointment over the injuries while welcoming the two replacements. He also wished Chapman and Foulkes a smooth recovery.

The updated squad will be led by Mitchell Santner, with experienced players including Devon Conway, Daryl Mitchell, Glenn Phillips and Tim Seifert expected to form an important part of the team’s campaign.

India Series Begins on October 22

The opening T20I will take place in Christchurch, followed by matches in Christchurch, Wellington, Auckland and Hamilton. The series finale is scheduled for November 1.

New Zealand will now look to adjust their combinations and prepare for India’s visit despite the loss of two players ahead of the home series.
