Emails threatening to blow up passport offices sweep Rajasthan, turn out to be hoax

Bomb threat: A wave of panic swept across Rajasthan on Tuesday, as passport offices in multiple cities of the state received emails threatening they would be blown up, the police said. According to the police, the emails prompted evacuation and extensive search operations at all the Passport Seva Kendras that had received the threat, but no suspicious items were found, and the threats were later deemed a hoax. 

Regional Passport office in Jaipur first to receive threat

According to police officials, the Regional Passport office in state capital Jaipur was the first one to receive the threat, after which the law enforcement agencies were pressed into service. The sleuths immediately evacuated the office, as well as the passport seva kendras operating from post office premises in the city. Entry to the offices was also halted, the police said. They maintained that despite extensive search operations, no suspicious items were found.

Cops issue warning across Rajasthan, security checks conducted

Following this, the police issued warnings to all districts in Rajasthan. Subsequently, the security agency personnel, bomb squad and the police conducted security checks in Bikaner, Banswara, Sikar, Jaisalmer, Barmer, Jhunjhunu and Sriganganagar. 

In Kota, the sleuths evacuated the passport offices located in Nayapura and Vigyan Nagar this noon, while bomb disposal squads and sniffer dogs were deployed to examine the premises, including the vehicles parked on the premises. However, no incriminating materials were found here either.

The police officials underlined that similar bomb threat emails had recently been sent to the court and schools across the state. On receipt of every such email, security checks were conducted, but the threats ultimately proved to be hoaxes.
