The AIMIM chief says he has disagreements with Prime Minister Narendra Modi but will not tolerate disrespect towards India or its constitutional offices, stressing that the country must make its own decisions.
Owaisi Pushes Back Against Foreign Interference
AIMIM president Asaduddin Owaisi has sparked discussion with his remarks defending India’s sovereignty after comments attributed to billionaire Elon Musk concerning Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Reacting to the controversy, Owaisi reportedly said, “A Gora cannot dictate us,” arguing that foreign individuals should not dictate how India governs itself or manages its resources. The remarks underline his position that decisions concerning India must be made by Indians, irrespective of political differences within the country.
‘I Have 100 Issues With Narendra Modi’
Owaisi also made it clear that his defence of the Prime Minister’s office does not mean he supports the BJP government. “I have 100 issues with Narendra Modi, but I will not tolerate insult of our country and constitutional post,” he said, according to the statement circulating on social media.
The comment highlights the distinction Owaisi drew between opposing a government politically and defending the dignity of the country’s constitutional institutions.
The AIMIM leader has frequently criticised the Modi government on domestic political issues. However, his reported remarks suggest that he considers national sovereignty a separate issue from party politics.
‘We Have the Cheapest Data in the World’
Owaisi also reportedly pointed to India’s affordable mobile data services while making his argument. “We are enjoying cheapest data in the world,” he said, referring to India’s comparatively low mobile internet costs.
India’s competitive telecommunications market has helped make mobile data affordable for a large number of consumers. However, the precise global ranking depends on the dataset, methodology and period used for comparison.
National Interest Beyond Party Politics
The remarks have attracted attention because they place Owaisi, a prominent opposition leader, in defence of India’s sovereignty while maintaining his political disagreements with Modi.
His message centres on the idea that criticism of the government should not translate into disrespect for the country or its constitutional offices.
