The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Thursday arrested retired judge and Twisha Sharma’s mother-in-law Giribala Singh in connection with the death of the former actor and model. The arrest came almost a day after the Madhya Pradesh High Court (HC) quashed the anticipatory bail granted to her by a Bhopal court.

Twisha was found dead on May 12, 2026 at her matrimonial house in Bhopal, while an FIR pertaining to the case was registered on May 15. On the very same day, a Bhopal trial court had granted interim anticipatory bail to Singh. However, her son and Twisha’s husband, Samarth, is still in CBI custody after he surrendered days after the incident.

HC flags injury marks on Twisha’s body, Singh’s non-cooperation

While cancelling the anticipatory bail order, MP high court’s justice Devnarayan Mishra cited repeated allegations against Giribala Singh, her alleged lack of cooperation during the probe, the gravity of the allegations and the trial court’s failure to scrutinise crucial evidence properly.

The High Court (HC) said, “The anticipatory bail order passed by the 10th Additional Sessions Judge, Bhopal, for offences punishable under Sections 80(2), 85 and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023, along with Sections 3 and 4 of the Dowry Prohibition Act, 1961, is hereby quashed.”

Madhya Pradesh Advocate General, Prashant Singh, speaking after the court’s order, said that the HC had taken serious note of several important observations emerging from the case. He remarked, “The HC has considered seven ante-mortem injuries found on Twisha’s body, indications of mental harassment through WhatsApp chats and the repeated non-cooperation of Giribala Singh despite several notices issued to her.”

He added that the court’s decision opened the possibility for custodial interrogation by the CBI if necessary.

Twisha’s father welcomes court decision

After the HC’s intervention and Singh’s arrest, Twisha’s father, Navnidhi Sharma, expressed gratitude towards the judiciary and everyone who had supported the family in their fight for justice.

While speaking to news agency ANI, he said, “I express my gratitude to everyone who has stood with us so far in this battle for justice. I pray this is only the first step.” Furthermore, he also thanked the Supreme Court and the Chief Justice of India (CJI) for taking cognisance of the matter and said the HC’s decision had sent a strong message across society.
