A fire brigade meant for emergencies was seen spraying water outside a BJP MLA’s bungalow. Now, a viral video has triggered questions over the use of government resources.
A controversy has erupted in Gujarat’s Dahod district after a fire tender from the Devgadh Baria municipality was sent to the residence of BJP MLA and former minister Bachubhai Khabad in Pipero village. A video showing firefighters spraying water around the private property later went viral on social media.
Fire Tender Was Called From Around 25 Km Away
The MLA’s residence is around 25 kilometres from the Devgadh Baria fire station, which reportedly has only one fire tender. Municipal officials said the vehicle was initially dispatched after a call that was understood to be related to an emergency.
However, when firefighters reached the house, they were reportedly asked by associates of the MLA to wash the exterior walls of the bungalow.
Operation Stopped Within Seconds
Municipal officials said the cleaning operation was stopped within around 15 seconds after the fire officer was informed about what was happening. Fire Officer Mayur Singh Chauhan said his team realised that the vehicle had been sent for a non-emergency purpose and he ordered the operation to be halted.

₹2,700 Charged After Video Went Viral
Following the controversy, the municipality collected ₹2,700 for the deployment of the fire tender. Reports said the receipt was issued in the name of Khabad’s son, Balwant Khabad. The municipal administration is also examining whether any rules were violated.
Questions Over Use of Emergency Resources
The incident has sparked criticism because the fire tender is intended for firefighting and rescue operations. Questions are now being raised over whether government emergency machinery was used for a private purpose.
The controversy has also drawn attention because parts of Gujarat have been facing water-related concerns following deficient rainfall. Officials are expected to examine the circumstances behind the deployment and determine whether further action is required.
A fire truck sent for an emergency, a bungalow being washed, and a ₹2,700 bill now the real question is: who authorised the call?
