A deadly militant attack on a military facility in Karachi resulted in the deaths of at least nine people, including three members of the Pakistan Rangers and six attackers, following a fierce exchange of gunfire with security forces.

Several others were injured in the assault, which targeted the provincial headquarters of the Pakistan Rangers and raised fresh concerns about militant violence in the country.

According to initial reports, the attackers launched the operation by driving an explosive-laden vehicle into the main gate of the heavily guarded facility.

The powerful explosion was followed by an armed assault as militants attempted to breach the compound and engage security personnel stationed inside.

Intense Gun Battle Follows Explosion

Security forces responded immediately to the attack, leading to a prolonged gun battle between the militants and Rangers personnel. Witnesses reported hearing heavy gunfire and explosions in the area as security teams worked to contain the attackers and secure the facility.

Authorities later confirmed that all six militants involved in the operation were killed during the exchange of fire. Three Rangers personnel also lost their lives while defending the headquarters, while several security officials and civilians sustained injuries and were taken to nearby hospitals for treatment.

Militant Group Claims Responsibility

The militant group Jamaat-ul-Ahrar claimed responsibility for the attack shortly after the incident. The organisation, known for carrying out high-profile attacks in Pakistan in the past, stated that the assault was directed at security institutions.

Officials have not yet independently verified the group’s claims, but investigators are examining evidence collected from the scene and analysing the methods used in the attack to determine the network involved and whether additional militants may have provided logistical support.

Security Measures Tightened Across Karachi

Following the incident, security agencies increased vigilance across Karachi and surrounding regions. Checkpoints were strengthened, and additional personnel were deployed at key government and military installations as a precautionary measure.

Senior officials condemned the attack and praised the security forces for preventing the militants from penetrating deeper into the facility and causing greater damage.

Investigation Underway

Authorities have launched a full-scale investigation into the attack, including the origin of the explosives and the identities of the militants involved. Security officials stated that efforts are underway to identify any support networks and prevent similar attacks in the future.
