Rampur, Uttar Pradesh: A 29-year-old businessman, Navjot Singh, was shot dead at his car washing centre in Kumharia Kalan village in Uttar Pradesh’s Rampur district on Saturday evening, October 10. The shocking incident has triggered concern in the area, while CCTV footage has emerged as a key part of the ongoing police investigation.
Attack Lasted Only Seconds
According to reports published on October 11, the incident took place at around 4:30 PM at Gill Car Washing Centre, located along the Milak Khanam-Bilaspur road. Navjot Singh, a resident of Tah Kalan village, was sitting at his centre when armed attackers arrived and opened fire.
He reportedly sustained four bullet wounds to the chest and collapsed. He died shortly afterwards. The attackers fled towards Bilaspur before people nearby could react.
Police officers reached the spot after receiving information about the shooting. The body was sent for a post-mortem examination, and a dog squad was deployed to assist with the investigation.
Personal Dispute Under Investigation
Investigators are examining a possible family dispute as a motive for the murder. Media reports indicate that Navjot Singh had married a widowed woman considerably older than him after the death of his first wife. The circumstances surrounding this marriage and the alleged family tensions are among the angles being investigated.
However, police have not conclusively established the motive, and the allegations must be treated as unverified until the investigation confirms them.
CCTV Footage Being Examined
According to Amar Ujala’s October 11 report, police are examining footage from cameras installed at the washing centre and nearby locations to identify the attackers and trace their escape route. A worker who was present at the centre is also being questioned.
As of October 11, the latest reports reviewed did not confirm any arrests. Police said the investigation was continuing and that all possible angles were being examined.
