A major drinking water pipeline was damaged after a car crashed into its air valve near Nagole Metro Station on the Uppal-Nagole road in Hyderabad in the early hours of October 20, 2026. The incident resulted in a massive water leak, with thousands of litres of drinking water flowing onto the road. The accident also disrupted water supplies to several parts of the city.

How Did the Incident Happen?
According to reports, the accident occurred at around 3 am near Metro Pillar No. 813 and 814. A speeding car reportedly rammed into an air valve connected to the Krishna drinking water pipeline, damaging the structure.
The impact caused water to gush out of the damaged pipeline, creating a fountain-like spray that reportedly rose above the metro track. Water continued flowing onto the road for several hours, leading to significant wastage of drinking water.
The driver, identified in reports as 24-year-old Vineeth from Hayathnagar, died in the accident.

Water Supply Affected in Several Areas
The damage to the pipeline affected drinking water supplies across multiple localities in Hyderabad. Areas reported to be affected include Uppal, Ramanthapur, Vanasthalipuram, BN Reddy Nagar, Beerappagadda, Autonagar, Mettuguda, Secunderabad, Begumpet, Lalaguda, Meerpet, Badangpet and Balapur, among others.
The incident also caused water to accumulate on the road, affecting traffic movement in the surrounding area.

HMWSSB Begins Emergency Repair Work
Officials from the Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWSSB) initiated emergency repair work following the incident. Police and fire service personnel also reached the location after receiving information about the accident.
Water board officials began efforts to repair the damaged pipeline and restore normal water supply. Tanker arrangements were also reported for areas facing supply disruptions.
The incident has highlighted the consequences of damage to critical drinking water infrastructure, particularly when large quantities of treated water are lost before repairs can be completed.
