Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has intensified his attack on Union Home Minister Amit Shah, warning that those responsible for the alleged mistreatment of protesters during demonstrations against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar will face accountability.
His remarks came as the Opposition continued its campaign over alleged electoral irregularities.
Rahul Gandhi Delivers Strong Message
Addressing a press conference in New Delhi on October 14, Rahul Gandhi urged Amit Shah and Prime Minister Narendra Modi not to stand against what he described as the collective voice of the people. He said the protests brought together citizens across religious, caste and gender lines.
Warning Over Alleged Police Action
Gandhi also addressed allegations that police had assaulted student protesters during demonstrations. He urged students to preserve video evidence and send it to the Congress, saying the material would be used to seek accountability from those found responsible.
Opposition Continues Anti-CEC Campaign
The remarks came amid protests demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. Opposition leaders have raised concerns about the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls and alleged irregularities in the voting process. The BJP has rejected the Opposition's allegations.
Amit Shah Hits Back at Rahul Gandhi
Amit Shah has criticised Gandhi over the protests, accusing the Congress leader of spreading misleading claims about the electoral-roll revision exercise. These accusations form part of the ongoing political dispute between the BJP and Congress.
Political Tensions Continue
The exchange has intensified the confrontation between the ruling BJP and Opposition parties over electoral transparency, protest rights and accountability for alleged police action.
