Police Say Protest Was Held Without Permission
Police said the demonstration had not received the required permission.
The gathering was intended to show solidarity with the CJP protest in Delhi, where demonstrators have demanded the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar over alleged irregularities linked to the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. These allegations remain contested.
Hundreds Were Detained, Later Released
Mumbai Police had detained hundreds of people amid preparations for the protest, including Tushar Gandhi and Imran Khan. Media reports said those detained were subsequently released. The FIR marks the next stage of legal proceedings connected with the gathering.
The registration of an FIR does not establish guilt. The case concerns alleged violations, and the allegations will be subject to the legal process.
