Union Home Minister Amit Shah says the government is committed to helping tribal communities affected by decades of Naxal violence rebuild their lives, regain independence and live with dignity.

Over 3,600 People Benefit From Assistance Drive

Union Home Minister Amit Shah highlighted the government’s rehabilitation efforts for people with disabilities affected by Naxal violence in Chhattisgarh. Addressing an assistive-device distribution ceremony under the Seva Sankalp Abhiyan, Shah said the initiative aimed to help victims rebuild their lives and live with dignity.

The distribution programme was organised in Jagdalpur from October 5 to 7 and benefited more than 3,600 people with disabilities, including over 1,570 beneficiaries from Bastar. The initiative seeks to address the long-term impact of violence on tribal communities in the region.

Artificial Limbs, Hearing Aids and Mobility Support

The assistance includes artificial limbs and other devices designed to help people with disabilities regain mobility and improve their quality of life. These include wheelchairs, tricycles, hearing aids and walking sticks.

Many residents in Bastar have suffered life-changing injuries in improvised explosive device (IED) blasts attributed to Maoist activity. Special camps have been organised to identify eligible beneficiaries and provide them with assistive equipment.

Shah Says Naxalism Has Been Eliminated

During his address, Shah said the government had achieved its target of eliminating Naxalism by March 31, 2026. He stressed, however, that ending the insurgency would not erase the suffering experienced by tribal communities over the past five decades.

He said rehabilitation and development must continue so that areas affected by Left-Wing Extremism can catch up with the rest of the country.

Surrenders and Rehabilitation Measures

Shah also outlined rehabilitation measures for former Naxalites. According to figures cited during the programme, around 8,526 Naxalites had surrendered, 455 people had received employment and 129 had been allotted land.

He added that more than 4,000 houses had been provided under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana, while over 2,300 tribal people had received skill-development training.

Focus Shifts to Recovery and Development

The Seva Sankalp Abhiyan forms part of programmes marking Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s 25 years in public office, according to reports on the initiative.

The assistive-device distribution drive highlights the government’s stated focus on rehabilitation alongside security measures. For affected families in Bastar, access to mobility aids, healthcare, housing and employment remains important to rebuilding lives after years of conflict.
