MP Digital Janganna: Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister (CM) Dr Mohan Yadav on Thursday launched the digital self-enumeration process for Census 2027, with the aim to modernise data collection, officials said. As per officials, the event was inaugurated at the CM’s official residence, marking the beginning of a technology-driven census exercise across the state.

As per reports, residents will be able to complete the initial registration process online from their homes itself. The state government has opened the portal for a limited period, paving the way for the citizens to submit their housing and family details. The process will be in force from April 16 and April 30, 2026.

MP Digital Janganna: How does self-enumeration work?

Notably, the self-enumeration process has been designed to be secure, simple and entirely digital. Citizens will have to log on to the official portal of the Census and begin by entering their basic details like state, district and local administrative information. One of the highlights of the initiative is digital mapping, where users must pinpoint the exact location of their residence on an online map. This will improve accuracy and will also slash discrepancies in geographical data.

The participants will also be required to provide comprehensive details about their household, including other details of the residence, such as flooring, walls and roofing, as well as its usage, whether residential or commercial. Additionally, they will also have to provide accurate details about their family members carefully.

Deadline April 30

Officials aware of the development underlined that the portal will remain active only till April 30, 2026, urging citizens to complete the process within the stipulated timeframe. Once the self-enumeration process is over, the individuals who have registered will receive a unique SE ID. This identification number will play a crucial role when government enumerators visit households, making the verification process more efficient and quicker.

CM Dr Yadav shed light on the importance of the initiative, describing the digital census as a cornerstone for development planning and public welfare schemes. He noted that adopting a digital approach would ensure greater accuracy and transparency in amassing the data. The Census 2027 exercise will be carried out in two phases. The first one will focus on housing listing, followed by population enumeration, laying the foundation for evidence-based governance in the years ahead.
