Police in Chhattisgarh's Durg district have seized approximately ₹4 crore in cash concealed inside a specially constructed compartment in a pickup vehicle. Two people have been detained in connection with the seizure, while authorities investigate the source of the money and the purpose of its transportation.

According to media reports published on October 26, 2026, the cash was discovered during a police operation in the Dabr Para area under the Khursipar police station jurisdiction. The vehicle reportedly contained a hidden compartment in its rear section, where the large amount of cash had been stashed.

Police Intercept Suspicious Vehicle

According to reports, police received information about a pickup vehicle allegedly carrying a substantial amount of cash. A team subsequently intercepted the vehicle and conducted a search, leading to the recovery of approximately ₹4 crore.

The two occupants were detained for questioning as investigators began examining the circumstances surrounding the transportation of the money.

Income Tax Department to Examine Cash Trail

Following the seizure, the matter was referred to the Income Tax Department for further investigation. Authorities are expected to examine the source of the cash, establish its ownership and determine the purpose for which it was being transported.

Although the incident has been described in some reports as a suspected hawala operation, officials have yet to establish a confirmed link between the seized money and illegal financial transactions.

Destination of Cash Remains Unclear

There are discrepancies in media reports regarding the intended destination of the vehicle. While some accounts have suggested that the cash was being transported to Uttar Pradesh, other reports have identified Nagpur as the destination.

The exact destination and the circumstances surrounding the movement of the cash remain subject to verification.

Probe Underway

The seizure has raised questions about the origin and intended use of the substantial amount of cash. However, the final findings will depend on the investigation by the concerned authorities.

For now, the recovery of approximately ₹4 crore and the detention of two individuals have been reported, but the suspected hawala connection remains unconfirmed.
