Woman raped inside mosque: A cleric based in Uttar Pradesh’s Saharanpur allegedly raped a woman along with an aide on the premises of a mosque on April 15, the police said. According to police, the duo breached the woman’s trust on the pretext of treating her son, whose health had been on the decline. The accused duo even filmed an obscene video of the act and threatened the woman, following which they were arrested on Sunday.

Co-accused Nadeem brought woman to the mosque
The survivor woman alleged in her complaint to the police that she came across one Nadeem, and discussed her son’s deteriorating health. He allegedly told her that there was a cleric who would treat her child, and that his condition would never fall again. Continuing her statements, the woman said she and her son went to the mosque, where they were offered a glass of water each, allegedly laced with sedatives. According to her, they both lost consciousness after consuming the water.
Woman raped by Nadeem, cleric Junaid
The woman went on to say that while she was unconscious, Nadeem and the cleric, identified as Junaid, violated her and even filmed a video of the act. She added that after she regained consciousness, the duo threatened to circulate the obscene clip if she dared to reveal the incident to anyone.

Woman raped inside mosque: Cops accused of laxity
Furthermore, the woman levelled allegations of laxity against the cops. She accused the police of ignoring her complaint and mounting pressure on her to remain silent. Later, she approached a senior police official, who assured her of a thorough probe and appropriate action. It was only after the senior official’s intervention that the police arrested the accused duo, Nadeem and Maulvi Junaid. Reports suggest Nadeem is Junaid’s neighbour.
During questioning, the duo confessed to committing the crime.
