Vijay divorce updates: The legal proceedings in the divorce case between Tamil actor-turned-politician Vijay and his wife Sangeetha Sornalingam have been deferred yet again, official sources reported on Monday. As per the court’s order, the hearing has been pushed to mid-June. Tamil Nadu’s Chengalpattu Family Welfare Court on Monday announced the decision after a brief hearing, marking a second postponement in the case since proceedings began earlier in February 2026. 

Vijay divorce updates: Dispute was first listed on Feb 26

According to officials, the legal dispute was brought before the court for the first time on February 26. Sangeeta had sought dissolution of her marriage with Vijay, along with interim residential rights. The matter was earlier deferred to April 20, just days before the Tamil Nadu Assembly polls. 

However, on April 20, Monday, the case was listed as the fourth item before Judge Sasikala. After a short session, the court ordered adjournment of the case to June 15. Legal experts said that the upcoming hearing could play a key role in determining the next course of action in the proceedings, which has been drawing eyeballs from people and the media.

Sangeeta accused Vijay of infidelity in divorce petition

Notably, Sangeetha had filed the divorce petition in early 2026, in which she accused Vijay of infidelity. She claimed she discovered the actor’s relationship with another actress in April 2021, and despite being assured by Vijay that he would abort the association, it continued, causing her ‘deep emotional pain and mental agony.’

She further added that since 2021, the Tamil film industry’s ‘Thalapathy’ had allegedly withdrawn from the marriage, and subjected her to ‘constructive desertion,’ owing to which she had been living separately within the same household. 

Two-decades-long marriage under scrutiny

The couple had solemnised their marriage in August 1999 in ceremonies conducted as per both Hindu and Christian traditions. They have two children, named Jason Sanjay and Divya Shasha. Sangeetha, as well as her kids, have largely maintained a private life, keeping themselves away from the spotlight.
