“70-80% politicians watch porn”: Bihar MP Pappu Yadav sparks fresh political storm amid flurry of controversial statements

Pappu Yadav controversial statement: Days after sparking a flurry of controversies with contentious remarks, Bihar MP Pappu Yadav has again landed in soup with fresh statements made on Wednesday. The politician recently said that 70-80% of the politicians watch porn.

The controversy follows a notice issued to him by the Bihar Commission for Women over his earlier comments made on the Women’s Reservation Bill.

The Bihar Commission for Women took exception to Yadav’s statement which claimed that a majority of women in India cannot step into politics without visiting a male leader’s ‘room.’ The comments drew immense flak from political leaders, who termed them anti-women, as well as derogatory.

Yadav responded to the notice and defended his position, but escalated the row further by making claims about behaviour of politicians. He contended that those questioning him must also be scrutinised, asserting that such issues are widespread within political circles.

“Intended to expose exploitation of women in politics”: Yadav

Yadav, doubling down on his stance, said that his comments sought to expose the alleged exploitation faced by the women in politics. He added that male politicians often act as barriers to women’s entry, unless they are subjected to exploitation.

Continuing his statements, he said that numerous cases of sexual misconduct against politicians exist. According to Yadav, his statements were intended to highlight these concerns rather than belittle women.

Pappu Yadav controversial statement: Yadav made triggering remarks in debate at Parliament

The controversy stems from his speech on the Women’s Reservation Bill, where he underlined that women are not respected in politics often, and are frequently ‘preyed upon.’ He kicked up a nationwide outrage with the assertion, “90% of women cannot begin a political career without going to a male leader’s room.”

Furthermore, he criticised societal structures, saying that exploitation of females persists across institutions, from schools to workplaces, and is deeply ingrained.

Leader holds huge history of controversial remarks

Notably, this is not the first time Yadav has drawn criticism for his remarks. In 2025, when a stampede ensued at the Prayagraj Mahakumbh, he remarked that politicians and wealthy individuals should take a dip at the Sangam (confluence) to attain ‘Moksha’ (salvation).
