Members of Team Bharat on Friday alleged that Delhi Police stopped them from reaching the residence of Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari after the group sought to challenge him over the government's promotion of E20 (20% ethanol-blended) petrol.
According to a statement shared by the organisation on social media, Team Bharat claimed it had challenged the minister to identify "one person affected by E20 blended petrol." The group alleged that instead of responding to the challenge, Delhi Police prevented its members from proceeding to the minister's residence. The members said they were later taken to Tuglak Road Police Station.

Team Bharat's Allegations
In a social media post, Team Bharat stated that it wanted to engage with the Union Minister on concerns related to ethanol-blended fuel. The organisation claimed that police action prevented the delegation from meeting Gadkari and termed the move an attempt to avoid a direct discussion on the issue.
The group also shared photographs and videos purportedly showing its members at Tuglak Road Police Station, alleging they were stopped despite planning a peaceful visit.
E20 Fuel Debate
The Centre has been promoting E20 petrol as part of its strategy to reduce crude oil imports, improve energy security, and lower vehicular emissions. The government has repeatedly maintained that ethanol blending offers environmental and economic benefits while supporting India's sugarcane and biofuel sectors.
However, some groups and individuals have raised concerns regarding the long-term impact of higher ethanol blends on certain vehicles and fuel efficiency, though the government has maintained that E20-compatible vehicles are being introduced in phases.

No Immediate Response
At the time of writing, there was no immediate response from Union Minister Nitin Gadkari or Delhi Police regarding Team Bharat's allegations. The circumstances under which the group was stopped have not been independently verified. Further details are awaited as the matter develops.
