Relief kicked in for Abhijeet Dipke, founder of the pressure group Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) on Saturday, after he was granted bail by a Special Executive Magistrate’s court at Mandir Marg in the national capital. He bagged the bail almost a day after he was detained ahead of the party’s proposed ‘Lehra Do Tiranga’ protest march on Friday in Delhi.

The outfit’s founder has been directed to furnish a personal bond of Rs 50,000 and is expected to be released shortly. Officials aware of the development said that under Sections 126 and 170 of the Bharatiya Nagarika Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), he is required to comply with the conditions outlined in the bond, including maintaining peace for one year.

Cops issued two notices to Dipke before protest

As per reports, more than 20 personnel from the Delhi Police had visited DIpke’s residence ahead of the ‘Lehra Do Tiranga’ movement on Friday and had served him two notices. The first one barred him from staging a demonstration, procession or rally in and around Connaught Place, as the cops cited the risk of a stampede and potential traffic disruptions.

In the second notice, concerns had been raised over alleged violations of bond conditions previously imposed on Dipke and other leaders of the CJP, Saurav Das and Ashutosh Ranka. It recalled that the trio had earlier been taken into preventive custody and were produced before a court, which ordered them to maintain peace and good behaviour for a year.

Notices were served to Dipke on Friday

Despite receiving the notices, Dipke did not comply with them, owing to which he was detained on Friday while travelling to join the march, police said.

Cops denied permission for Tiranga March

Notably, the CJP had scheduled its ‘Lehra Do Tiranga’ campaign at the Central Park in Delhi’s Connaught Place for 5 pm on Friday. However, Delhi Police refused to grant permission to the outfit, citing prohibitory orders imposed under Section 163 of the BNSS, which restrict congregations in CP and adjoining areas.

A still from the detentions

Alongside Dipke, Neha Bora, the President of the All India Students’ Association (AISA) was also detained at Mandi House, while heading towards the protest venue. Dipke was picked up from his residence in Jhandewalan. Their detentions resulted in scenes of jostling involving crowds, camera crews and security personnel.
