The intermediate (Class 12) students attached to schools affiliated to the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) across the country have begun raising fresh concerns in unison on social media platforms, including ‘X’ (formerly Twitter), seeking 15 to 20 grace marks. The latest wave of concerns, carrying the hashtag #CBSEGraceUs, comes amid alleged discrepancies in the board’s On-screen Marking (OSM) system and technical glitches which reportedly affected the post-result verification process.

The demands have resurfaced from the students’ side after CBSE shut its marks verification and re-evaluation window on June 7, halting a process that had already been extended numerous times due to operation challenges.
Students alleged technical glitches during re-evaluation process
As per several students, the post-result portal suffered repeated technical glitches and cyberattacks while they applied for marks verification and re-evaluation. Many of them claimed the said disruptions prevented them from submitting requests successfully despite multiple attempts.
Earlier, the board said more than 1.6 lakh students submitted applications concerning over 3.8 lakh answer sheets during the review period. However, a section of students has maintained that they were left deprived of the process due to system-related issues beyond their control.

As frustration went up a notch, affected students took to social media to voice their concerns and seek the board’s intervention.
Admission fear compounds anxiety
The issue has again assumed great significance as university admission cycles have picked pace across the country. Many students fear that delays in the review process, coupled with alleged evaluation discrepancies, could cost them valuable opportunities at leading institutions.
Engineering aspirants are at the helm of the vocal groups, with several claiming that they may fail to meet the mandatory 75% Class 12 eligibility criterion required for admission to the prestigious Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs), despite securing competitive ranks in entrance exams.
One student posted on ‘X’, “College admissions are moving forward while affected students are still waiting for answers. Delays only increase uncertainty and anxiety. CBSE must acknowledge the impact of OSM-related issues, ensure fairness, and provide appropriate grace marks to students who were affected.”

The growing online campaign has amplified pressure on the board, with educators and parents also joining calls for a fair redressal to the grievances. Supporters of the demand argue that students should not suffer academic setbacks due to technical shortcomings in the evaluation or review process.
However, the CBSE has not yet responded to the issue.
