An Air India flight from Frankfurt to Delhi was diverted to Jaipur on October 14 after a suspected hijack alert triggered an emergency security response. The aircraft landed safely, and authorities later cleared it following security checks.
Hijack Alert Triggers Diversion
Air India flight AI2030, operated by a Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner, was flying from Frankfurt, Germany, to Delhi when a security alert prompted its diversion to Jaipur International Airport on Wednesday morning.
According to preliminary reports, the pilot briefly transmitted Squawk Code 7500, an internationally recognised transponder code used to signal possible hijacking or unlawful interference with an aircraft. The exact circumstances behind the alert remain under investigation.
Aircraft Lands Safely in Jaipur
The aircraft landed safely at Jaipur airport at around 9:35 am. It was then moved to an isolated bay, where security personnel began inspecting the aircraft and passengers’ luggage.
All passengers and crew members were reported safe. Passengers were deboarded and underwent security checks as authorities followed standard safety procedures.
Security Agencies Launch Checks
Airport security personnel, local police and bomb detection teams responded to the alert. The incident prompted heightened security measures while officials worked to establish what had triggered the warning.
Preliminary indications suggested the alert may have been activated by mistake, but authorities launched an investigation to determine the circumstances.
Air India Issues Statement
Air India confirmed that flight AI2030 had been diverted because of a perceived security concern. The airline said security agencies had completed the necessary checks and cleared the aircraft and crew.
Passengers underwent security screening and subsequently reboarded the aircraft for the onward journey to Delhi. The airline also apologised for the inconvenience caused by the disruption.
Investigation Underway
The incident has raised questions about the circumstances behind the reported hijack signal. Investigators are examining why the alert was transmitted and whether it resulted from an error. The aircraft landed safely, all passengers were reported safe, and the alert was later described as false.
