Mirzapur road horror: 9 charred to death in multi-vehicle collision, 2 more lose lives due to crash

Mirzapur road accident: A total of 11 persons lost their lives in a devastating multi-vehicle collision in Uttar Pradesh’s Mirzapur district late Wednesday night, the police said. As per police, a truck, a trailer and two cars were involved in the crash, which sparked a blaze. Nine occupants of a Bolero SUV were charred to death in the incident, including four kids. Meanwhile, the truck driver and the driver of a Swift car also died in the crash, the police added. The police sprung into action and extricated the remains, as well as identifying the victims.

Truck’s brake failure suspected to be the reason behind crash

According to a preliminary probe, the accident was allegedly triggered as the truck suffered a brake failure. It had been descending the Drummondganj hill. The district’s Superintendent of Police (SP) Aparna Rajat Kaushik visited the scene, and said that the driver lost control before ramming headlong into the Bolero and the Swift car, and eventually crashed into a trailer parked ahead.

The police provided the details about the incident, saying, “The impact caused both cars to catch fire, and they were reduced to a mangled heap.” Senior police officials, including the Circle Officer of Lalganj and Drummondganj’s Station House Officer (SHO) remained at the scene till late to oversee the rescue operations and legal proceedings.

Mirzapur road accident: PM Modi expresses grief, announces compensation

Prime Minister (PM) Narendra Modi expressed deep sorrow over the tragedy and extended condolences to the bereaved families. In a post on ‘X’, he announced an ex-gratia of Rs 2 lakh from the PM’s National Relief Fund for the kin of the ones who died. Meanwhile, the injured persons will receive a financial assistance of Rs 50,000.

Probe on

As of now, a police probe is underway into the incident, and the cops are persevering in efforts to establish the exact sequence of events, as well as identify the people who died.
