Focus laid on endangered species

After releasing the reptiles, CM Dr Yadav said that shielding the endangered species is the top priority of the Madhya Pradesh government. “We are working with firm resolve to conserve species that are on the brink of extinction,” he added.

Out of the 53 released ghariyals, scientifically known as Gavialis gangeticus, 28 are males and 25 are females. In addition to this, 25 turtles belonging to the Three-Striped Roof Turtle species (Batagur dhongoka) were reintroduced into the river ecosystem. According to officials, the carefully monitored release will rev up the aquatic biodiversity in the region, and shall aid in restoring the fragile riverine habitat.

Tourism, Cheetah Project pick pace

On the occasion, CM Dr Yadav also underscored the steep spike in tourism across Madhya Pradesh. He said that the state has witnessed a surge in the number of tourists this year, and attributed a part of it to the wildlife initiatives.

Continuing his statements, he said that the Cheetah Project launched under the leadership of Prime Minister (PM) Narendra Modi has also been sprinting towards success. As per the Department of Public Relations (DPR) of MP, the Cheetah tally in the state currently stands at 48, and the state is strengthening its position as a leading wildlife destination.

Towards the end, Dr Yadav said that the coordinated push for conservation and eco-tourism reflects the government’s dual commitment to environmental protection and sustainable development.
