MP CM Vikramotsav 2026: Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister (CM) Dr Mohan Yadav on Thursday attended the ‘Vikramotsav 2026’ event organised at Bhopal’s Ravindra Bhawan, during which he reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to preserve and promote the legacy of Emperor Vikramaditya.

CM participates in several rituals


On the occasion, CM Dr Yadav participated in the ‘Koti Suryopasana’ ritual and watched a theatrical performance centred on Emperor Vikramaditya. Following this, he felicitated the artists for extending contribution to promoting Indian culture through the performance. 


The Chief Minister then extended warm greetings to the residents of the state on the occasion of Vikram Samvat 2083 (Hindu New Year) and Gudi Padwa. He also outlined Ujjain’s enduring role as a beacon of knowledge, science, culture and religion. 


He said, “Ujjain has illuminated the path of civilization for centuries. The traditions established by Emperor Vikramaditya continue to inspire generations.” He added that Vikramotsav is gaining prominence with the passing of every year. 



MP CM Vikramotsav 2026: State rejoices in celebrations


Notably, Thursday marked the beginning of the Hindu New Year, and district headquarters across the state hosted Sun worship ceremonies, as well as cultural events simultaneously at 10 am. As part of the celebrations, a ceremonial Brahma flag is also slated to be installed atop the revered Mahakaleshwar shrine in Ujjain. The government officials, on the occasion, also distributed a booklet titled ‘Bharat Ka Nav Varsh Vikram Samvat’ to the general public with the goal of spreading awareness about the historic and cultural significance of the Vikram Samvat calendar.

Theatre plays bring history to life


In order to propagate Emperor Vikramaditya’s valour tales to every corner of the state, the Madhya Pradesh school of drama deployed theatre groups to stage theatrical performances in all districts of MP. These productions were staged at various district headquarters of Madhya Pradesh. As per government officials, these performances aim to connect people, especially the youth, with India’s rich past and instill pride in its historical legacy.
