Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister (CM) Dr Mohan Yadav on Sunday transferred ₹1,835 crore to the bank accounts of more than 12.5 million women beneficiaries under the state's flagship Ladli Behna Yojana, reaffirming the government's commitment to women's financial empowerment.

The funds, constituting the 38th instalment of the welfare scheme, were transferred during a state-level programme held in Lahar town of Bhind district. On the occasion, the Chief Minister also inaugurated and laid the foundation stones for 56 development projects worth ₹322.29 crore, providing a significant infrastructure boost to the district.

Sandipani schools to come up on Guru Purnima

On the occasion, CM Dr Yadav announced that Bhind would receive four Sandipani Schools on the occasion of Guru Purnima, while postgraduate courses would also be introduced at the government college in Lahar.

Addressing the gathering, the Chief Minister described Bhind as a land of historical and cultural significance, referring to the region's association with the Pandavas' escape from the Lakshagriha episode in the Mahabharata. He praised the district's people for their resilience and paid tributes to Lord Hanuman, whom he described as a symbol of righteousness and unwavering devotion.

CM Dr Yadav reiterated that empowering women remains one of his government's top priorities. He said the Ladli Behna Yojana, which initially provided ₹1,000 per month, now offers ₹1,500 to eligible beneficiaries. According to him, the state has transferred more than ₹51,000 crore into the accounts of women since the scheme was launched.

He emphasised the economic importance of financial assistance, saying even modest amounts make a meaningful difference to household budgets and help improve the lives of women and their families.

CM hits out at opposition

During his speech, CM Dr Yadav sharply criticised the Congress, alleging that the opposition had failed to introduce meaningful welfare measures for women during its tenure. Referring to reported remarks made by Madhya Pradesh Congress president Jitu Patwari regarding the Ladli Behna Yojana, the Chief Minister accused the opposition of insulting women and undermining their dignity.

He further claimed that under Prime Minister Narendra Modi's leadership, India has earned greater respect globally, while law and order, women's safety and opportunities for development have improved significantly.

UCC to be implemented this month

Making a major policy announcement, the state’s top political leader said the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) would be implemented in Madhya Pradesh within this month, making the state one of the larger Indian states to adopt the legislation.

He said the proposed law would ensure equal legal rights for all citizens, irrespective of religion, and claimed it would particularly benefit Muslim women. According to the Chief Minister, the committee constituted to gather public feedback received more than one million suggestions, including inputs from members of the Muslim community.

He also thanked Prime Minister (PM) Narendra Modi for abolishing the practice of instant triple talaq, describing it as a significant reform for women's rights.

Focus on farmers, industry and employment

The Chief Minister also highlighted several initiatives aimed at strengthening agriculture, industry and employment. He said the state government is procuring wheat at ₹2,625 per quintal, supporting dairy development and encouraging the establishment of gaushalas through financial assistance.

He announced that government-operated bus services, which were discontinued during previous administrations, would resume later this month. CM Dr Yadav also referred to upcoming industrial investments, including cement plants in Guna and Shivpuri, and reiterated the government's commitment to creating jobs, promoting infrastructure and preserving India's cultural heritage through the development of religious and historical sites across Madhya Pradesh.
