Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister (CM) Dr Mohan Yadav on Monday announced a special Raksha Bandhan gift for women enrolled under the state’s Ladli Behna scheme, promising an additional ₹250 payment alongside their regular monthly assistance of ₹1,500.

The announcement is expected to bring added cheer to lakhs of women across the state ahead of Raksha Bandhan. According to the Chief Minister, the additional amount will be credited to the bank accounts of eligible beneficiaries as a special festive gift.

₹250 bonus over and above regular assistance on the cards

Under the announcement, each eligible Ladli Behna will receive ₹250 in addition to the ₹1,500 monthly assistance provided under the scheme. This means beneficiaries will receive a total of ₹1,750 during the festival month, combining their regular payment with the special Raksha Bandhan amount.

The additional financial support is separate from the routine assistance and is being provided specifically to mark the festival, according to the announcement.

The initiative is being presented as a measure aimed at extending financial support to women during the festive season, when household expenditure often rises. The government has said the move is intended to add to women’s happiness during Raksha Bandhan while providing them with additional economic assistance.

Payment to be announced from Maihar event

The special distribution is scheduled to take place on August 19 during a programme to be held in Maihar. It is during this event that the additional ₹250 Raksha Bandhan gift will be provided to eligible Ladli Behna beneficiaries across Madhya Pradesh.

Preparations for the programme are also reportedly under way at the administrative level.

Raksha Bandhan, which celebrates the bond of affection and trust between brothers and sisters, holds considerable cultural significance across the country. By announcing the additional payment around the festival, the state government has sought to combine the occasion with a direct financial benefit for women covered by the scheme.

Women set to receive ₹1,750

The Ladli Behna scheme provides eligible women with regular monthly financial assistance of ₹1,500. With the newly announced festive payment of ₹250, beneficiaries are set to receive ₹1,750 in total during the relevant month.

The announcement has generated enthusiasm among women beneficiaries across the state, with the additional amount expected to offer some financial relief as families make preparations for Raksha Bandhan.

The government’s decision is also being viewed in the broader context of women’s economic support and empowerment. For many beneficiaries, the additional payment could help meet festive expenses and provide a measure of financial assistance at a time when household spending typically increases.
