Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister (CM) Dr Mohan Yadav on Thursday reaffirmed his government’s ambition to transform the state into India’s milk capital, highlighting the role of livestock farming in boosting farmers’ incomes and strengthening rural economies.

The state government is pursuing a range of initiatives and innovative measures to increase milk production, promote cattle rearing, conserve indigenous cattle and encourage livestock farmers. The Chief Minister said the Mukhyamantri Vrindavan Gram Yojana would play a significant role in achieving these objectives.

Reviewing the scheme at a meeting held at the state secretariat, CM Dr Yadav directed all concerned departments to work in close coordination to ensure its effective implementation.

Water Resources Minister Tulsi Silawat, Revenue Minister Karan Singh Verma and Chief Secretary Ashok Barnwal were among those present at the meeting.

Vrindavan Villages to Become Models for Dairy Farming

CM Dr Yadav said the villages being developed under the Mukhyamantri Vrindavan Gram Yojana across all 208 rural Assembly constituencies in Madhya Pradesh would serve as examples and sources of inspiration for other villages.

According to the Chief Minister, the initiative is expected to encourage cattle rearing and expand dairy production across the state. By promoting organised livestock farming and strengthening support systems for dairy farmers, the government aims to create sustainable opportunities for rural communities.

The scheme is also intended to contribute to cattle welfare and conservation while supporting the broader goal of increasing agricultural and allied-sector incomes.

Milk Cooperatives Formed in 129 Villages

During the review meeting, officials informed the Chief Minister that milk cooperatives had already been established in 129 villages across the state. Of these, dairy union activities are currently operational in 70 villages.

The progress reflects the government's efforts to develop an organised dairy network in the villages covered by the scheme.

The Animal Husbandry and Dairy Department is also bringing all Vrindavan villages under the Ksheer Sagar Yojana, which will provide support for improving livestock health and productivity.

Focus on Cattle Health and Breed Improvement

Under the Ksheer Sagar Yojana, several activities will be undertaken, including breed improvement, better nutritional support for cattle and veterinary treatment. These interventions are expected to help improve animal health and productivity, supporting higher milk yields and strengthening the livelihoods of livestock farmers.

Officials also briefed the meeting on the gaushalas operating in Vrindavan villages and the measures being undertaken to develop these facilities.

Emphasising coordinated implementation, CM Dr Yadav called for the concerned departments to work together to ensure that the schemes deliver their intended benefits.

With a focus on dairy infrastructure, cattle conservation and village-level development, Madhya Pradesh is seeking to strengthen its dairy sector and establish itself as a major milk-producing state in India.
