Madhya Pradesh has introduced stricter fire safety requirements to prevent fire-related incidents and improve public safety. Under the new rules, buildings falling under specified categories must maintain essential fire prevention systems and undergo regular fire safety audits. Building owners and operators who fail to comply may face strict action, including the possibility of electricity and water supply disconnection in serious cases.

Fire Safety Audits Required by June 30

Under the reported provisions, owners of buildings covered by the rules must complete their annual fire safety audits and submit the required reports to the concerned authorities by June 30 each year. The audit will help assess whether the building has adequate fire prevention equipment and whether the installed systems are functioning properly.

Authorities may issue notices to building owners who fail to submit the required reports on time. Continued non-compliance could lead to further action, including the cancellation of fire safety certification, where applicable.

Hospitals, Schools and Commercial Buildings in Focus

The requirements are expected to cover specified categories of hospitals, schools, hotels, markets, commercial complexes and other public buildings, depending on applicable standards. Requirements may include fire alarms, extinguishers, sprinkler systems and emergency exits, based on the building’s height, size and intended use.

Negligence Could Lead to Strict Action

During inspections, authorities may direct building owners to correct safety deficiencies within a specified period. Failure to address these shortcomings could result in further enforcement measures. In serious cases, buildings may be declared unsafe, sealed or face disconnection of electricity and water supplies, subject to the applicable provisions.

Fire Tax and Service Charges

The reported rules also provide for fire tax and prescribed service charges to support fire and emergency services. The measures aim to strengthen fire safety infrastructure across Madhya Pradesh and reduce the risk of casualties and property damage during fire emergencies.

Building owners and operators will need to pay close attention to the applicable safety standards, audit deadlines and compliance requirements to avoid possible penalties.
