In a major push to transform the infrastructure landscape of the historically water-stressed Bundelkhand region, Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Dr Mohan Yadav on Friday unveiled a massive development package exceeding Rs 189 crore for Tikamgarh district.

Presiding over a bustling public programme in Khargapur, the Chief Minister inaugurated and laid foundation stones for 72 distinct development projects designed to overhaul local education, transit connectivity, and essential public services. Among the flagship projects is the completely redeveloped Tikamgarh Railway Station, modernised under the central government’s Amrit Bharat Station Scheme.

Medical college to come up in city too

In a move that drew roaring applause from the gathered crowd, CM Dr Yadav also announced that a fully equipped state-of-the-art medical college would be established in Tikamgarh, promising that its foundation stone would be laid in the very near future.

The Chief Minister initiated the landmark event with traditional Kanya Pujan (the ritual worship of young girls) and the lighting of a ceremonial lamp, before personally distributing welfare benefits to local residents.

Transforming education and transport linkages

On the occasion, CM Dr Yadav highlighted that the revamped Tikamgarh Railway Station will drastically improve regional logistics, whilst a newly built network of 'Sandipani Schools' in Jatara, Khargapur, and Bada Gaon will revolutionise local schooling.

According to the Chief Minister, these specialized schools have been tailored to combine modern academic facilities with value-based teachings inspired by the timeless camaraderie of Lord Krishna and Sudama.

"These institutions will equip our younger generation with top-tier education and robust cultural anchors, thoroughly preparing them for the future," CM Dr Yadav stated. He also reaffirmed the state’s unwavering focus on women’s empowerment, noting that financial disbursements through the popular Ladli Behna Yojana scheme are successfully driving economic independence among women statewide.

The blueprint for UCC and water security

Turning his attention to broader governance, CM Dr Yadav stated that Madhya Pradesh is actively progressing towards the implementation of a Uniform Civil Code (UCC) under the national leadership of Prime Minister (PM) Narendra Modi.

He emphasised that a standardised legal framework governing marriage, divorce, and asset inheritance would critically safeguard the legal rights of Muslim women.

Addressing regional concerns, the Chief Minister championed the massive Ken-Betwa River Linking Project, calling it a permanent solution to Bundelkhand’s historical drought crisis. Launching a sharp political critique, he alleged that past Congress administrations had completely failed to support agrarian communities, leaving farmers to battle poverty and forced migration due to acute water scarcity.

"This entire region is now firmly on the path to economic recovery," the Chief Minister asserted. "With proper irrigation, Bundelkhand has the potential to eventually outpace the agricultural output of traditional farming hubs like Punjab and Haryana."

Empowering the rural economy

Reflecting on the state's expanding agricultural footprint, CM Dr Yadav revealed that total irrigated land across Madhya Pradesh has surged exponentially from just 7.5 lakh hectares in 2002–03 to an impressive 65 lakh hectares under the current administration.

To mark the state's designated 'Kisaan Kalyan Varsh (Farmers’ Welfare Year)', the government is rolling out direct financial incentives for livestock owners, alongside a dedicated subsidy of ₹40 per cow to help establish rural gaushalas (cattle shelters). Furthermore, partnerships with the National Dairy Development Board (NDDB) are securing better profit margins for local milk producers, while concurrent investments in fisheries aim to uplift traditional fishing communities across the district.
