More than 20 people were injured after a swarm of bees attacked devotees during a Jawara immersion ceremony in Rajoda village of Madhya Pradesh’s Dewas district on Tuesday morning, October 20, 2026. The sudden attack triggered panic among people participating in the religious ritual, with several injured devotees requiring medical treatment.

The incident reportedly took place around 9 am when villagers had gathered for the immersion ceremony. According to reports published by local media outlets, the attack disrupted the proceedings as people rushed to escape the swarm.

How Did the Bee Attack Happen?

According to initial reports, the incident occurred near a well where devotees had gathered for the Jawara immersion ritual. Some participants reportedly entered the well to bathe during the ceremony.

A beehive was located on a nearby Peepal tree, directly above the well. Water splashes from the bathing area reportedly reached the hive, disturbing the bees and triggering the attack.

As the swarm descended on the people gathered nearby, devotees began running in different directions to protect themselves. The sudden turn of events created chaos at the religious gathering.

More Than 20 People Injured

Reports indicate that over 20 people sustained injuries from bee stings. Several victims were taken to hospitals for treatment, while others reportedly returned home after receiving stings that did not cause severe discomfort.

According to reports, at least six injured people were initially reported to have been admitted to Dewas District Hospital. Subsequent local media reports also mentioned treatment at private and government medical facilities.

The injured received medical attention following the incident. Initial reports indicated that the condition of those receiving treatment was not considered serious.

Eyewitness Describes Panic at the Spot

An injured participant, identified in local media reports as Santosh Patidar, described the frightening moments when the bees began attacking the gathering. According to his account, people struggled to find shelter as the swarm continued to hover around them.

Some participants reportedly used available materials to protect themselves from the bees while waiting for the situation to settle.

The incident caused considerable concern among villagers, as the attack took place during an ongoing religious ceremony.

Cause of Attack Yet to Be Officially Confirmed

While initial reports suggest that water splashes may have disturbed the beehive, the exact circumstances surrounding the attack have not been independently established.

The incident serves as a reminder of the potential risks posed by beehives near crowded public gatherings, particularly during religious processions and outdoor events.
