A heartbreaking tragedy unfolded in Uttar Pradesh’s Sultanpur on Sunday morning when an ambulance carrying the mortal remains of Army Subedar Major Satyawan crashed on the Purvanchal Expressway. Four people travelling with the body were killed in the accident.
Ambulance Crashes Near Sultanpur
According to police, the accident took place around 8 a.m. near the 79.6-km mark in the Haliyapur area, close to the Ayodhya-Sultanpur border. The ambulance was carrying Subedar Major Satyawan’s remains from Chandigarh to his native village in Deoria.
Police said the ambulance went out of control and crashed into a stationary truck parked on the roadside. Reports also say an unidentified vehicle may have struck the ambulance before it hit the truck. The exact sequence is being investigated.
Three Family Members Among Those Killed
The deceased have been identified as Satyawan’s 28-year-old son Gaurav Singh, his 35-year-old brother Rajan Chaudhary, his 40-year-old nephew Ram Samujh Singh and the 30-year-old ambulance driver, Jaspal.
Gaurav and Jaspal died at the spot. Rajan and Ram Samujh were seriously injured and later died while undergoing treatment at a hospital in Ayodhya district.
A Family’s Final Journey Turns Into Another Tragedy
The family was taking Subedar Major Satyawan’s mortal remains to his native village in Deoria for the final rites. Instead, the journey ended in another devastating loss for the family.
Police have sent the bodies for post-mortem examination. The mortal remains of Subedar Major Satyawan were kept at Haliyapur police station while further arrangements were being made.
Investigation Underway
Senior officials, including Sultanpur SP Vineet Jaiswal and the district magistrate, visited the accident site. Police are investigating the circumstances of the crash and the role of the unidentified vehicle.
The tragedy has left a family mourning not one loss, but four more lives lost while carrying their loved one home.
