A video from Gujarat’s Rajkot Civil Hospital has sparked concern over patient assistance after an elderly woman was seen pulling a stretcher carrying her ailing husband through the hospital premises. The footage has raised questions about the availability of staff to help patients and their families during treatment.
The incident reportedly took place at Pandit Deendayal Upadhyay (PDU) Civil Hospital in Rajkot. The video surfaced on social media and attracted attention over the difficulties faced by the elderly woman while moving her husband for medical care.
Hospital Administration Begins Inquiry
Following the circulation of the video, questions were raised about why the woman had to pull the stretcher herself despite the hospital’s arrangements for patient assistance.
According to a report by VTV Gujarati published on October 20, hospital media coordinator Dr M. S. Roy said an inquiry had been initiated at the Resident Medical Officer (RMO) level.
Roy stated that the hospital has teams and a helpdesk to assist patients. The administration will investigate why the elderly woman had to move the stretcher without apparent assistance.
He added that action would be taken against any employee found responsible for negligence during the inquiry.
Ambulance Staff Issue Also Draws Attention
The incident has also brought attention to a separate controversy concerning ambulance drivers at the hospital. However, the administration’s comments do not establish any direct connection between the drivers’ issue and the stretcher incident.
Roy reportedly said he had not received any written resignations from ambulance drivers. He also stated that arrangements had been made for three additional drivers through the agency to ensure that patient care was not disrupted.
Questions Remain Over Patient Assistance
The viral footage has renewed questions about the support available to patients and their families at the government-run hospital. While the video has prompted public concern, the circumstances surrounding the incident and the availability of staff assistance require further verification.
The hospital’s inquiry is expected to examine how the situation occurred and whether any employee failed to perform their duties. The findings will determine whether negligence took place and whether disciplinary action is warranted.
