Badshah’s latest Haryanvi song Tateeree kicks up row; State Women’s Commission cites indecency, issues summons

Badshah controversy: Popular singer-rapper Badshah has invited fresh troubles for himself, days after the release of his Haryanvi track Tateeree. The Haryana State Commission for Women (SCW) received complaints about the song allegedly containing indecent language regarding women, and references that could be offensive and culturally inappropriate. Taking suo motu cognisance of the complaints, the SCW has issued a summon to the singer. 

Notably, the track was released earlier this week, and kicked up a row over its portrayal of women and the possible influence of the song’s lyrics on younger audiences.

HSCW Chairperson confirms development

HSCW Chairperson Renu Bhatia confirmed the development, saying that the panel resorted to proceedings after receiving numerous complaints about the song. She added that the content in contemporary music must be scrutinised, when it risks promoting objectionable messaging, particularly among minor kids. The summons issued on March 6, 2026, have named Badshah as the primary respondent. Additionally, a notice has also been served to the Superintendent of Police (SP) of Panipat, directing the authorities to ensure the presence of the parties concerned during the hearing.

Hearing slated for March 13

According to the officials at the Commission, the hearing has been scheduled for March 13, 2026, and will commence at 11:30 am in the conference hall of the DC office in Panipat. Chairperson Bhatia will preside over the proceedings in the case. 

Complainants allege objectification of females

Savita Arya, the President of the Nari Tu Narayani Utthan Samiti in Panipat, and Shiv Kumar, director of the Shiv Aarti India Foundation filed the complaints. They alleged that the track contains sexually abusive language which objectifies women and minors. The duo has urged the Commission to take strict action against the ones responsible for producing and promoting such content.

HSCW’s Bhatia questions content regulation

HSCW’s Chairperson Bhatia raised questions on the regulatory process which greenlighted the song for public release. She referred to her previous experience as a member of the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC), expressing concern about how such crass lyrics passed scrutiny. “It is important to understand how such content gets clearance when it may affect public morality and cultural sensitivity,” Bhatia told news agency ANI.

Tateeree is a Haryanvi hip-hop single performed by Badshah alongside singer Simran Jaglan. It was released on March 1, 2026. The song’s lyrics were penned by Badshah, while the music was composed and produced by Hiten.
