Ujjain Simhastha 2028: The dates for the much-anticipated Simhastha Kumbh Mela 2028 have officially been announced on Tuesday. The religious congregation will be held in Ujjain from March 27, 2028 to May 27, 2028, spanning as many as 60 days.
Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister (CM) Dr Mohan Yadav announced the dates, saying that the upcoming Simhastha will be organised on an even more ‘divine and magnificent’ scale than its previous editions. Notably, the Simhastha Mela is held every 12 years in Ujjain and is recognised as one of the largest spiritual gatherings in the world. Alongside Ujjain, it is also held in Haridwar, Prayagraj and Nashik.

Holy bathing rituals to be held on banks of Kshipra River
The event is determined on the basis of astrological calculations. It is held when the Sun enters the Aries sign and Jupiter enters Leo. The rare celestial alignment marks the auspicious period for Simhastha in Ujjain. During the course of the 2-month-long event, millions of devotees from across India and abroad are expected to show up in the holy city. Special bathing rituals will be organised along the banks of the sacred Kshipra River, considered highly auspicious for spiritual cleansing.
Ujjain Simhastha 2028: Seven dates proposed for taking a dip in Kshipra
The Madhya Pradesh government, along with local authorities, has already set large-scale preparations in motion for the mega event. According to officials, plans are underway to ensure improved facilities for pilgrims, including the widening of roads, expansion of railway connectivity, enhanced power supply and the construction of temporary infrastructure.

While the earlier Simhastha Kumbh fair was conducted for over a month, the 2028 edition has been extended to two months, keeping in view the safety and convenience of the devotees. Additionally, seven major dates for the Parv Snan (auspicious days for bathing) have been proposed for the festival, which are expected to see peak footfall. While preparations for the grand event are picking pace, Ujjain is set to transform into a global hub of spirituality, devotion and cultural heritage once again.
