New Chandigarh, October 3, 2026: West Indies produced a stunning comeback in the third and final ODI as captain Shai Hope’s unbeaten 162 helped the visitors chase down India’s 351-run target with five wickets in hand. The victory gave West Indies a memorable finish to the series, although India secured the three-match series 2-1 after winning the opening two games.

India Post 351 After Strong Batting Performance
Batting first, India put up a commanding 351/7 in their 50 overs. Ruturaj Gaikwad provided a solid contribution with 57, before Rohit Sharma took the attack to the West Indies bowlers with a fluent 92 off 85 balls.
Rohit’s innings included 10 boundaries and three sixes and gave India valuable momentum in the middle overs. KL Rahul then delivered a composed finish, remaining unbeaten on 129 to take India past the 350-run mark.
With a target of 352, India appeared to have enough runs to put West Indies under significant pressure.

Shai Hope Leads West Indies’ Record Chase
West Indies, however, responded with remarkable confidence. Shai Hope anchored the chase from the top and remained unbeaten on 162, producing a match-winning innings under pressure.
Hope found consistent support from Amir Jangoo, who scored 67. The pair helped West Indies build crucial partnerships and kept the required run rate under control.
Instead of allowing India to dictate terms, West Indies steadily took the game away from the hosts.

India’s Bowling Attack Fails to Defend 351
India’s bowlers struggled to maintain pressure after making early inroads. The attack failed to produce regular breakthroughs during the middle overs, allowing West Indies to settle into the chase.
India also found it difficult to contain Hope, who continued to find boundaries and rotate the strike effectively. As the target came within reach, West Indies’ confidence grew and India’s chances of making a comeback faded.
West Indies eventually reached 352/5 in 48.2 overs, completing a remarkable five-wicket victory.
India Still Take the Series 2-1
Despite the defeat, India finished the series as winners with a 2-1 scoreline. However, the final ODI will be remembered for West Indies’ impressive run chase and Hope’s outstanding unbeaten century, which turned a seemingly challenging target into a convincing victory.
